San Diego Tutors provides specialized tutoring for children facing challenges such as difficulties with reading, written language, or math, dyslexia, ADD, and ADHD in gr. 1* to 8. SDT is a registered LLC in the state of CA, in business since 2005. As the owner and main tutor, Mrs. B brings over 40 years of experience as a successful teacher in both special and general education, with four current CA teaching credentials and a Master's Degree in Education. Her tailored, positive, and effective direct-instruction-based, systematic teaching methods assist children to improve academically and gain confidence.
Tutoring for kids is conducted primarily online in private, individual sessions, with in-person tutoring at our Santee location as an option.

I'm a certified special ed teacher with 25 years of classroom experience and 4 California teaching credentials that cover all aspects of Special Education K-12 (Learning Handicapped & Severely Handicapped), Elementary Education, and Social Sciences, with a Masters in Educational Technology and add'l certifications and experience as a Resource Specialist and ESL teacher. As owner and main tutor for San Diego Tutors during the past 20+ years, I've helped hundreds of students improve significantly in their academics. Many have gone on to colleges and keep in touch, citing their tutoring experience with me as instrumental in their successes over the years.
I work with grades 1-8, and occasionally with grade K and high school students for basic skills (case-by-case). San Diego Tutors (SDT) was estalished in 2005 to provide private tutoring for children who need help in their academics, with an emphasis on basic foundational skills.
All tutoring sessions are for 1 - 1.5 hours and cost $65 per hour online and $75 per hour in-person, with a minimum of one hour per week.
Our online and in-person tutoring approach is individually designed to make maximum progress. Direct instruction tutoring methods and educational recommendations are based on Mrs. Brinchman's extensive experience and training, effectively helping students with learning problems. A variety of interesting materials may be utilized to enhance learning, including hands-on manipulatives and multimedia. We teach methods that students can use to assume more confidence and independence with their work.
For online tutoring, the parent should provide Internet access, a laptop or computer (not iPad or school-issued) with mouse and keyboard, and download Zoom software (free) to the computer. Workbooks may be recommended for purchase, to be used during and after tutoring for followup, if desired. Paper and pencil should be close at hand as well, for some activities.
On a case-by-case basis, students may be tutored in-person at our office in Santee, CA.
Mrs. B provides a tutoring session report to the parent by email (or in-person), following the end of each session, with attachments as indicated, such as work samples and academic helps.
Individualized, private tutoring has consistently been shown to help our student clients, over the years, because they receive personalized attention in the areas of need from a highly experienced, specially credentialed teacher. Study skills, help with homework, and remediation of problem academic areas are included, so the student can rapidly make progress. The student is taught strategies to approach his/her schoolwork that work to improve learning, even when away from the tutoring session.

Reading problems are a particular specialty, with an emphasis on systematically teaching phonics, while improving reading fluency and reading comprehension. We also often help students with written language, spelling, and math. We can work on learning problems of any kind, including attention-related issues and learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Mrs. Brinchman can attend IEP meetings with the parent(s) and advocate for strategies and services to improve academics in school, and communicate with teachers on a regular basis, if desired. If a student has homework, or an upcoming quiz, test, project or report, these can also receive attention and may be worked on in our tutoring sessions.
Tutoring franchises often depend on inexperienced personnel with few qualifications, rather than experienced, highly qualified, specialized teachers. Other tutoring companies do not offer teachers with multiple special education credentials, background, and training. At San Diego Tutors, we provide optimal conditions in which to conduct the tutoring. Our sessions are private and individual. We often serve clients who failed to improve after many thousands of dollars spent on franchise tutoring - and the frequent comment is, "I wish I had heard of San Diego Tutors before we spent $8,000 - $10,000 at XXXX (franchise)."

Students in grades 1-8 attend for a suggested minimum of 1-2 sessions (1 - 1.5 hours per session) per week*. The suggested time ensures that enough instruction is received to benefit the student. Some students attend daily, to ensure the quickest progress. Our methods are interesting to the children, so they don't mind being in tutoring for these time periods.
Students who are behind in reading or math by several years or more often benefit from double the amount of sessions, above. It is an investment worth making! We recommend that you try us out to see what a difference we can make in a short period of time!
